Attention 7th Grade Students and Parents…
WEB is coming! DPM is currently seeking 7th grade students who would like to improve their school community by serving as W.E.B. Leaders for the 2019-2020 school year. What is WEB? WEB, which stands for “Where Everybody Belongs,” is an orientation and transition program that welcomes 5th graders and makes them feel comfortable throughout the first year of their middle school experience. Built on the belief that students can help students succeed, the program trains mentors from the 8th grade class to act as WEB Leaders. As positive role models, WEB Leaders are mentors and student leaders who guide the 5th graders to help them discover what it takes to be successful during their middle school career. What are the responsibilities of the WEB Leaders? WEB Leaders are trained to work with the incoming 5th grade class during the morning of Wednesday, August 21st and Thursday, August 22nd. The leaders run 5th grade orientation before school starts on Friday, August 23rd. At orientation, each group of WEB Leaders mentors a group of incoming 5th graders, and is also asked to befriend and help that group during the first week of school. Additionally, throughout the year, the WEB Leaders will meet with their groups 2-3 times to listen and provide advice. Who can apply? We are looking for a wide variety of 7th grade students to serve as leaders. If you feel that you have good communication skills, are willing to take risks and put yourself out there, and are motivated by a strong desire to help others, this program is for you. How can I learn more about the program? There will be an informational meeting in the lecture hall next Wednesday, April 10th, during 7th grade homeroom. The WEB program coordinators will be there to provide additional information, answer any student questions, and hand out applications to all interested students. Where can I get an application and when are they due? Applications will be available at the informational meeting on April 10th. We will also leave paper copies in the DPM-West office starting that day. Completed application are due to the DPM-West office no later than 4:00 pm on Wednesday, April 17th. |
